ABOUT ME
Lexi Janssen is a Dance Instructor, Choreographer, and Entrepreneur from Germantown, Wisconsin. In 2020, she earned her Bachelor of Science degree in Retailing and Consumer Behavior, with Certificates in Dance and Entrepreneurship from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. While Operations Lead at the Camp Randall Sports Center, she gained HR experience including scheduling, creating and executing trainings, and onboarding new employees and worked as a Facility Supervisor. As the Marketing and Operations Assistant work at Madison Ballet, she has expanded her marketing and administrative experience. She is currently pursuing an MA in Arts and Creative Enterprise Leadership from the Bolz Center in the Wisconsin School of Business and plans to open her own dance studio.

Lexi has choreography experience through her work choreographing from Optima Dance, the largest dance club at UW-Madison. During her four years earning her undergraduate degree, Lexi choreographed 8 pieces in jazz, hip hop, lyrical, and contemporary styles. She also taught weekly drop-in classes at Express Yourself Madison in "sassy jazz". Through the pandemic, she continues to work on solo and videography choreographies while expanding her knowledge of the arts industry through her Master's program and work at the Madison Ballet.

Artist's Statement
My choreography spans broad categories of dance therefore encaptures many different emotions and purposes. Whether the piece is a heart-wrenching contemporary dance or an empowering hip hop routine, I strive to give confidence to any and all that learn my choreography. Over my many years of dancing, the art form has allowed me to use my body to physically express my emotions. The dance floor is the one place where I feel like I can be truly and unapologetically myself. It is my hope to share this feeling with all who experience my choreography.

Weekly Class Instruction
Lexi Janssen was a professional teacher at dance studio Express Yourself Madison. She teaches "Sassy Jazz" drop-in classes, a class is tailored to dance beginners and experts, giving all an outlet for expression creativity in this twist on a fundamental dance genre.
OPTIMA DANCE
Performance Choreography
Lexi choreographed for UW-Madison's largest dance club, Optima Dance. She teaches her original choreography weekly for the duration of a semester which is performed in Optima's Showcase at the end of each semester. She choreographed dances for Optima in hip hop, jazz, hip hop fusion, and contemporary styles.

Lexi has worked with the Madison Ballet for over a year, starting as an Administrative intern and being promoted to the Marketing and Operations Assistant. Through her work here she gained experience in marketing, development and fundraising, operations, and arts administration. Marketing projects include creating Madison Ballet's 2019 Annual Report and heading a one-hour radio show feature.

Lexi earned a Certificate in Dance from UW-Madison's world renowned Dance Department. Through the certificate, she studied contemporary and world dance, dance history, improvisation, choreography and movement analysis.

Assisted choreographer Debbie Berry in teaching and setting dances as Dance Captain for the Pius XI High School Production of West Side Story.   Additionally, she received and performed the role of solo dancer, Velma, by audition.
